After a long effort, toiling, striving and laborious work, the instrument that he had in mind and the one that he had dreamt about finally took shape and realized in the form of “ARUMUKHANAM”, which is an instrument with six faces and each sounding a different note. Arumukhanam was declared as the percussion instrument of Pondicherry origin legacy of Pondicherry to the music world by Shri N. Published book on Arumukhanam in six languages in 2007.

Vidwan Gopakumar developed a unique system, with dots and lines, called DOT LINE VISION POWER’ a code system for learning percussion instruments by the visually impaired. This has been practically tested with visually impaired students and has been found to be a boon to the visually impaired. Also invented a SYMBOL SYSTEM for the jathis. This is mainly for overcoming the language barrier when the students are from different states or countries. This problem was felt while teaching Arumukhanam and Mridangum to students from France, Germany and Italy. With the introduction of this SYMBOL SYSTEM, teaching and learning Arumukhanam and Mridangam become very easy and joyful. Another one is GRAPH SYSTEM in sound variation for simplifying the rhythmic jathis in Indian Music. He had observed and studied the positive effects of Rhythm therapy on MENTALLY RETARDED CHILDREN, which is a part of his ongoing research project.
